Son sends Gareth Bale message as Jose Mourinho drops selection hint

Tottenham forward Heung-min Son's Gareth Bale wish could come true, with Jose Mourinho confirming the Welshman could play a bigger role in the coming weeks.

Bale has been a peripheral figure since his stunning return from Real Madrid during the summer window.

Arguably the most high-profile of any Premier League arrival, he has struggled to break into Mourinho's starting XI, playing just 248 minutes in the league.

The Spurs boss has handed him more opportunities in the Europa League and he grabbed his latest one with both hands.

Starting in the round of 32 clash vs Wolfsberger AC, Bale looked closer to his old self, registering a goal and an assist in his 65 minute showing.

It was from his cross that Son opened the scoring in the 4-1 win, with the South Korean revealing how much he enjoys playing with him.

"I have a really close relationship with him," Son said, after the win in Budapest.

"I’m very happy he’s getting game time and scored a goal and got an assist. I really enjoy playing with him."

On the game itself, he added: "It’s very important we showed from minute one that we wanted to win, not only 1-0 or 2-0.

"We showed a good attitude and scored three goals in the first half. The guys had a really good mindset."

Mourinho, who also started Dele Alli, claimed the match 'wasn't an exam' for any of his players, although a number did make a case for more regular minutes, starting with West Ham on Sunday.

Speaking after the victory, the Portuguese head coach revealed that Bale's substitution in the second half was with the Hammers in mind, where he could retain his place in the starting line-up.

He said: “One of the reasons why he left the pitch by minute 65 was to try to have him available for the next match because one of the things that is not easy related to his condition is the accumulation of minutes.

“So by taking him off at that minute we managed to save him a few miles in his legs and probably, I know the match is Sunday at 12pm, but I believe he has a chance to play the match.”
