Thomas Partey to Arsenal: Two players offered to Atletico, Gunners confidence, PSG twist

Thomas Partey to Arsenal remains an ongoing transfer saga. Mikel Arteta would love to sign the Atletico Madrid star yet knows he must sell before he buys. So Express Sport will now take a look at the latest news and gossip about the deal.

Two players offered

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has claimed Arsenal proposed using Alexandre Lacazette and Matteo Guendouzi in a swap deal for Partey.

“For sure they spoke with Atletico Madrid,” Romano told Lee Gunner on his YouTube channel.

“It was during the meeting they had for Thomas, the first time it was in July.

“They spoke about Matteo Guendouzi and they spoke also about Lacazette.

“But at the moment, Atletico Madrid was not going for Lacazette.

“We will have to wait a bit to see about this situation because it will also depend on what will happen to other clubs if Atletico Madrid will sell for example Diego Costa and what will happen with Luis Suarez.”

Gunners confidence

Arsenal are confident they will sign Partey from Atletico Madrid because of recent transfer developments, reports say.

Bleacher Report say the Gunners are sure they’ll land the Ghana international because of a raft of sales that are planned to take place.

Sokratis Papastathopoulos is likely to join Napoli, having fallen down Arteta’s pecking order since the Spaniard’s appointment.

Arsenal have got Henrikh Mkhitaryan off the books, with the Armenia international saving them a small fortune in wages as a result of his departure on a free transfer.

Lucas Torreira is looking likelier to join Fiorentina with each passing day and he, too, will help inject some funds into the squad.

And Arsenal could also cash in on Lacazette, too.

Transfer twist

Arsenal are suddenly no longer the only club interested in signing Partey this transfer window.

ESPN claim Paris Saint-Germain are keen to sign the 27-year-old, with the Ligue 1 giants able to offer Champions League football.

Arsenal, contrastingly, would only be able to offer Partey the chance to compete in the Europa League.

And whether PSG are able to succeed where the Gunners have currently failed is something only time will tell.

Sky Sports reporter thinks Lacazette is key to Partey deal

Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth thinks Arsenal may be waiting to sell forward Lacazette before making a move for Partey.

“This has the makings of one of the busiest transfer windows for Arsenal in recent years,” Sheth said on The Transfer Show. “There’s one name that’s been banded around throughout this transfer window and it’s the Atletico Madrid midfielder Thomas Partey.

“He remains a player, we think, Arsenal are interested in. He’s got a release clause believed to be around £45m. “For Arsenal to be able to spend that much on one player, it’s likely they will need to have a few sales before they can commit £45m.

“Now, we’ve been speaking throughout this week to look out for Alexandre Lacazette and what potentially could happen to him.

“He is a player that could raise funds for Arsenal and there’s even talk of Alexandre Lacazette being part of a deal where he would go to Atletico Madrid as part of a deal that would bring Thomas Partey to the Emirates.

“If a new deal [at Arsenal] is not forthcoming, this basically is the last realistic chance that Arsenal have to get good money for Lacazette.”
