Daniel Levy and Fabio Paratici reportedly both harbour reservations about reappointing Mauricio Pochettino as Tottenham’s head coach. Spurs are widely expected to sack Antonio Conte this week and are weighing up replacements for the Italian.

Conte’s spell is set to come to a sad and toxic ending. The former Chelsea boss seemed to slam the club’s owners and players after Saturday’s 3-3 draw with Southampton, claiming they had grown too comfortable with their lack of success.

Levy is set to dismiss Conte when the 53-year-old returns from Italy at the end of the week. A search for his successor will then commence, with Ryan Mason likely to take charge on an interim basis.

Former boss Pochettino has been widely linked and would reportedly be a popular choice among Spurs’ squad. The north Londoners frequently competed for the Premier League title and reached the Champions League final under the Argentine.

But according to the Mirror, chairman Levy and managing director of football Paratici share doubts about bringing Pochettino back to the club. Paratici supposedly favours the appointment of the former Spain boss Luis Enrique.

Ex-Chelsea head coach Thomas Tuchel is also reportedly under consideration. Sporting Lisbon boss Ruben Amorim and Brighton’s Roberto De Zerbi are two young coaches who are well-liked.

When Levy sacked Pochettino in November 2019, the 61-year-old said the former Southampton boss would always be welcome back at Spurs. “Mauricio and his coaching staff will always be part of our history,” he said.

“I have the utmost admiration for the manner in which he dealt with the difficult times away from a home ground whilst we built the new stadium and for the warmth and positivity he brought to us.

“I should like to thank him and his coaching staff for all they have contributed. They will always be welcome here.”

Pochettino has been out of work since leaving Paris Saint-Germain last summer. The 51-year-old is likely to be a contender for the Real Madrid job should the Spanish giants part ways with Carlo Ancelotti, so Spurs must act soon if they wish to seal an emotional return for one of their most successful managers.
