Tottenham are keen on signing Danny Ings this summer but Southampton’s stance over a sale is making the deal difficult to complete. The Saints want to keep their star striker, who now has just one year remaining on his current deal.

So much so, that they would prefer to lose him on a free transfer next year than sell him now.

Ralph Hasenhuttl believes Ings’ goals could prove the difference between a top-half finish and a relegation dogfight and he is therefore invaluable.

Yet that won’t stop Spurs from chancing their arm as they look to bring in back-up and support for Harry Kane, who could still leave this summer.

With Southampton refusing to budge, Express Sport looks at four players Tottenham could include in a player-plus-cash deal in order to sweeten the Saints.

Harry Winks

While he obviously won’t directly replace Ings, Winks remains an international-level footballer.

His neat passing would suit Southampton’s style of play and give them extra control in the middle.

Winks has a point to prove after falling beneath the radar at Spurs and this could be the perfect move to help get his career back on track.

The 25-year-old is still worth around £30million and would therefore be a notable addition to the Southampton squad.

Ryan Sessegnon

Low-key, Sessegnon could be a stellar acquisition for Southampton.

He is still only 21 and has enormous potential that Hasenhuttl can help unlock.

Sessegnon has been pushed back to left-back in order to try and make the grade at Spurs but he is still a major goal threat going forward.

The excellence of Son Heung-min could prove problematic when Sessegnon’s hopes of minutes in attack are concerned in north London but at Southampton, he could really kick on.

Joe Rodon

Southampton are well-stocked at centre-back for now but they do have to think about the prospect of losing Jannik Vestergaard on a free transfer.

Like Ings, the Dane’s contract is due to expire next year and Spurs are already sniffing around.

Rodon has shown promise when given a chance but he is yet to fully convince, although it’s still early days.

Nonetheless, it will take a package of significant value to twist Southampton’s arm and given his huge potential, Rodon could be the perfect makeweight.

Oliver Skipp

This one will hurt Tottenham fans, who have high hopes for Skipp.

Supporters probably wouldn’t trade him for the world and they remain desperate for him to make the grade at Spurs.

However, Skipp is likely to be of interest to Southampton as similarly to Winks, he suits their style of play.

Skipp has a huge future ahead of him and that could be of value to the Saints, even though they would undeniably require additional cash or another player on top to let Ings go.
