West Ham United have confirmed the signing of Maxwel Cornet from Burnley for at least £17.5m.
The 25-year-old player – who can appear as a left winger, wing-back or full-back – has signed a five-year contract at the London Stadium, with a further one year option.
The Clarets – who were relegated from the Premier League last season – sold Cornet to their similarly-coloured rivals after the Hammers met the £17.5m buy-out clause set out for the Ivory Coast international.
‘It’s a new step for me to join this big Club and I’m really happy to be here, to be part of the project for the Club. I’m just excited to start,’ Cornet told the club’s website.

The Ivory Coast international will wear the number 14 shirt for the Hammers this season
‘Everyone knows the level here in the Premier League is very high and I want to play here for that, so I’m really happy to be here for the next stage in my career.
‘It will be amazing to play in front of 62,500 fans at London Stadium. I played here for Burnley last season and I can’t wait to experience it as a West Ham player.’
West Ham made the Europa League semi-final last season, and will have European competition again this time around, as their seventh placed finish in the league earned them a Europa Conference League spot.
Cornet has over 300 previous appearances for clubs including Metz and Olympique Lyonnais
Cornet will wear the number 14 for David Moyes’ side, who begin their Premier League campaign on Sunday at home to reigning champions Manchester City.
Moyes said: ‘We are delighted to welcome Maxwel to West Ham United. He is a versatile player with good experience, both in the Premier League and in European football, and will add strength and quality to our squad.
‘He made a big impact with his performances for Burnley last season and he has impressed me with his desire to improve and challenge himself further here at West Ham.
‘We look forward to bringing Maxwel into the group and wish him all the best in his career with us.’
Cornet was Burnley’s top scorer last season, scoring nine times in his first year for the Clarets
Born in Bregbo in the Ivory Coast in September 1996, Cornet and his family moved to Metz in France when he was three years old. He joined the city’s football team aged seven.
He scored nine goals in 28 appearances for Burnley last season, but was unable to save the Clarets from being relegated in his first season at Turf Moor.
Cornet has earned 29 caps for the Ivory Coast, scoring six times since 2017. He decided to play for the nation of his birth, despite playing through the age groups of France’s youth system.
