Manchester United star Fred has given his thoughts on the competition with new arrival Donny van de Beek as well as teasing “more signings”.
The Brazilian is about to enter his third season with the Red Devils, impressing fans last year in his 48 appearances.
But he has now been joined in the midfielder by Van de Beek, who arrived from Ajax last week in a £34m deal plus £4m add-ons.
With 41 goals in 175 appearances as well as an Eredivisie title under his belt, the 23-year-old is expected to play in a midfield with Bruno Fernandes and Paul Pogba.
United’s Brazilian star, though, is ready to fight for his place in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side.
Speaking to FourFourTwo, Fred said: “I want to stay here – that’s my desire.
“I don’t want to leave. As I’ve always said, I want to be an important player and win trophies for this club.
“[Van de Beek’s arrival] means we’re getting stronger and that’s good for everyone at United.
“When you play at a big club, there will always be competition – I’m used to it. It’s been like that from day one at United.”
United have been linked with more transfer business this summer, though, with the club “agreeing” personal terms and agent fees with Jadon Sancho.
This deal would see him earn £250,000 a week, with Solskjaer’s side set to offer “£90m plus £18m in add-ons” to the German side for the fee.
And Fred’s comments on the team’s desire for new faces suggest the Old Trafford side will pull out all the stops to keep adding this summer.
“We need more players for this season because it will be even more demanding,” he added.

“The calendar is crammed and we need a strong squad to compete for every title.”
Fred may have an advantage after the latest run of Nations League fixtures, though, as van de Beek was hauled off for a “disaster class” against Italy this week.
The Dutchman worked his way through Ajax’s academy since arriving in 2008, breaking into the senior side seven years later.
It comes as United legend Darren Fletcher has given his take on the 23-year-old.
