Houssem Aouar would like to join Arsenal in the summer window as rumours around a fresh bid intensify. Mikel Arteta has made the French midfielder his top target for the remainder of the window as he looks to add fresh creativity to his lineup.
After Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang agreed to terms on a new three-year deal at the Emirates, Arteta can now focus on bringing in high quality additions and trimming squad players in the final weeks of the window.
Lyon midfielder Aouar has emerged as Arteta’s top target after reports earlier in the summer suggested that they had a bid rejected for him.
The French club’s sporting director Juninho confirmed that a potential swap involving Arsenal midfielder Matteo Guendouzi had been mooted between the two clubs.
He explained: “Guendouzi was discussed during the call, he is a great player, but he is the wrong profile. We are not interested in that at all, we cut the conversation.”

But now, according to reports in France, Arsenal will launch a fresh bid for the 22-year-old, with Telefoot Chaine describing a £36.5million bid as ‘imminent’.
Lyon are willing to selll at the right price, but the Gunners are still way off the Ligue 1 side’s valuation of £55m.
Juninho confirmed earlier this week that no bid had been launched for Aouar despite talks with officials from north London.
He added: “For now, there is nothing for these players.
“We have not received anything for Houssem, we have not received anything for Memphis.”

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, while no new bid has been lodged from Arsenal, Aouar remains the top target, with the player himself keen to make the switch.
“Aouar is top target for Arsenal and would like to join #AFC, but *no* new bid made yet [€60m price tag],” he said.
He also revealed that sporting director Edu has held extensive talks with the 22-year-old’s representatives, although personal terms are yet to be agreed.
On those personal terms, Romano added: “Not agreed yet. But Aouar would like to join and Arsenal spoke with his agents many times.”

Thus far, Arteta has signed two senior players in the window with Gabriel Magalhaes and Willian both impressing on their Premier League debuts.
They hope to add Dijon goalkeeper Alex Runar Runarsson this week, with the Iceland international set for a medical after a £1.5m fee was agreed.
He will replace Emiliano Martinez as Bernd Leno’s deputy, after the former completed his £20m switch to Aston Villa on Wednesday.
Martinez revealed he held talks with Arteta prior to his move to the Midlands, with the keeper leaving with immense respect for both the club and the manager.
