Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum has reportedly asked for more time to decide whether or not he will accept the Reds' latest contract offer.
Wijnaldum is out of contract in the summer and would be able to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with overseas clubs from January 1.
Barcelona have been heavily linked with the Dutchman but, according to a report from the Guardian, Wijnaldum is currently contemplating a new offer from Liverpool.
Both the club and manager Jurgen Klopp want the player to stay and he was presented with the latest offer at the beginning of December.
Wijnaldum is said to have promised Liverpool that he will inform the club of his decision before he starts talking to other sides, if he decides he wants to leave Anfield.
The 30-year-old has been ever present this season, starting every single Premier League game so far, but former Liverpool star John Aldridge believes Wijnaldum could end up leaving.
Speaking to the Liverpool Echo, Aldridge said: "You don’t know what is going on behind the scenes with Gini Wijnaldum. Agents are hard to deal with. Gini is in an idea position now.
"His contract is running out, he’s going to be free. He still loves Liverpool I’m sure. But there are going to be reasons behind it.

"Only he knows. If Gini wants to go, he’ll go. It’s as simple as that. It’s all in Gini’s court. Will the club push the boat out and give him what he wants?
"I don’t know, we’ll have to watch this space and trust the manager. But if he wants to go, he’ll probably go."
John Barnes hopes that Wijnaldum will stay but believes Liverpool will not "be held to ransom and give him a four-year deal on high wages".

He told BonusCodeBets: "Georginio Wijnaldum is a great player, I'm not sure if it would be Liverpool's best piece of business in the window, but you want a player who is happy to stay.
"It would be great if both the player and club could come to an agreement in this window for a new deal, but I don't feel as though Liverpool will be held to ransom and give him a four-year deal on high wages.
"The good thing about Liverpool is all of the players at the club want to play for the badge, they will all give 100 per cent and try to help Liverpool to win the league, which is all that can be asked for by a squad of players. I hope he stays."
