With Crystal Palace 2-0 down to Tottenham on their trip to the north side of London, Wilfried Zaha made matters worse after seeing red for a decision that has been labelled by fans as 'dumb'.

Zaha became involved in a scuffle with Davinson Sanchez, having already been booked earlier in the match for a foul on the Tottenham defender.

With Palace struggling against their London rivals, Zaha lost his head, and threw Sanchez to the ground in anger.

Referee Jon Moss had no other option than to book him for a second time, ending his Boxing Day rather prematurely.

It made Palace's task a whole lot harder, and now the Eagles will be without their star for an extra game on top of his Africa Cup of Nations absence in January.

Peter Crouch didn't hold back in his criticism of the Eagles star, with the former Spurs star labelling his decision as "stupid".

Speaking on BT Sport at half-time, he said: "It is reckless. You could say he went down a bit easy on the first one but it’s just stupid you just shouldn’t get involved the first one and the second one.

"I just think he’s the type of player who wants to be involved in these types of confrontations.

"I don’t know if you remember the game at White Hart Lane, he got involved with (Japhet) Tanganga and from then on he played better and raised his game.

"He needs that kind of fire but he’s just gone too far and steps over the line on this occasion."

Zaha was also at the centre of the drama the last time these two sides met, with Palace coming out as deserved 3-0 winners back in September.

However, it was the antics of the Ivorian that led to Japhet Tanganga seeing red for Spurs on that occasion.

Zaha became involved in an altercation against the Tottenham defender back in September, and following Tanganga's red, Palace went on to beat Spurs 3-0 at Selhurst Park.

However, karma has stuck Zaha in brutal fashion, and one fan has simply labelled his dismissal as 'dumb' due to the manner at which both yellow cards were brandished.

The fan said: "Zaha is the only stupid player I know, very dumb," following his red card.

Another said: "About time. He does this every game and gets away with it," as they questioned his conduct.

Another doubled down on the previous comment, saying: "Total liability, looks offended when player actually try and tackle him on a football pitch."

One fan also referenced the altercation between Palace and Tottenham earlier this season: "[Zaha] should have been sent off in the reverse fixture for swinging a punch at Tanganga."

Frustrated fans used the opportunity to turn on Zaha, with one brutally asking: "Anyone else think Zaha as been one of the most over rated players in the Premiership in the last 10 years?"

The loss of Zaha will be a real blow for Palace who are already suffering a squad shortage due to Covid, and Patrick Viera will not be impressed with the conduct of his main man.
