In a statement on Wolves’ official website, the club’s medical team posted an update on Kalajdzic.

The statement read: ‘Sasa felt a pain in his knee late in the first-half against Southampton. Unfortunately, scans reveal an anterior cruciate injury and he will see a knee specialist tomorrow.

‘We now need to support Sasa in his recovery and further updates will follow.’

The club also provided an update on striker Raul Jimenez, who was withdrawn from the squad after suffering an injury during the warm-up.

‘Raul’s pre-season was interrupted by a knee injury which means that he is still building his resilience and his ability to recover quickly during periods of match congestion.

‘It was felt that his body needed a few more days to recover after he felt a pain in his groin during the warm up and we did not want to put him at increased risk of injury.’

Wolves are currently in 14th place in the Premier League having taken six points from their first six games.

Bruno Lage’s side won 1-0 against Southampton, with Daniel Podence scoring.

Kalajdzic was at Stuttgart for three years having joined from Admira Wacker. He scored 24 goals in 60 appearances for the German club.

Wolves were also without Boubacar Traore, who is still awaiting international clearance. Chiquinho is set to be out for a prolonged period with a serious knee injury.
