There has been a string of upsets in New York, with four of the men’s top-10 seeds and five of the women already out.

Hubert Hurkacz was the latest to be sent packing, the No 8 seed losing to Ilya Ivashka.

In 18 Grand Slam appearances, the 2021 Wimbledon semi-finalist has crashed out in the first or second round 15 times.

NOT a lot can knock Rafa Nadal down these days — but his own racket can!

The 22-time Grand Slam winner needed a medical timeout on Thursday night after he hit his own nose to cause a bizarre self-inflicted injury.

‘I thought I had broken the nose,’ said Nadal (below), who was far from at his best despite beating Fabio Fognini in four sets.

‘In some ways I deserved it for playing that bad!’

Wimbledon finalist Ons Jabeur let out a mighty scream in delight after coming from a set down to beat Shelby Rogers and get into the last 16 — her career best at the US Open.

Jabeur appeared to jar her ankle and looked unwell. The No 5 seed from Tunisia said: ‘It was very difficult to adapt to how well Shelby was playing.’

Jabeur will face Russian rising star Veronika Kudermetova in the fourth round. She put in a flawless performance to see off Dalma Galfi in just 47 minutes yesterday.

The 25-year-old won 10 games in a row and lost just two points on serve in the whole match. Jabeur has lost all three of her matches against Kudermetova.

Joe Salisbury and Rajeev Ram continued their US Open men’s doubles title defence with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Luke Saville and Aslan Karatsev to reach the third round.

Nick Kyrgios and partner Thanasi Kokkinakis also won.

The pair took their home Australian Open and are unbeaten at Grand Slams in 2022.
