Nick Kyrgios has become the latest player to face the wrath of Piers Morgan as the controversial TV presenter turned his anger from Emma Raducanu to the Aussie. Kyrgios crashed out of the US Open in the quarter-final and smashed multiple rackets during and after the match in anger, prompting Morgan to respond.

Kyrgios’ impressive summer of tennis came to an end at the hands of Karen Khachanov in the US Open quarter-final. The Aussie battled back from a one-set and two-set-to-one deficit but ultimately lost to the Russian 7-5 4-6 7-5 6-7(3) 6-4 in a bizarre match that saw Kyrgios claim he didn’t want to play through an injury before he received a warning for raging at his box.

The world No 25 first smashed his racket when he risked being broken to lose the match in the fourth set and blew his own break points, and again at the end of the match as he returned to his bench following his five-set defeat. While Amazon Prime Video’s coverage cut away from Kyrgios during his final outburst, footage from the stadium showed the Aussie’s frustration at losing such an important match.

Morgan has since responded to the footage, tweeting: “D***heads never change their spots. Grow up @NickKyrgios – this is pathetic.” It comes after the 57-year-old slated Kyrgios during his recent maiden Grand Slam final at Wimbledon, as the eventual runner-up complained about a woman in the crowd who had “like 700 drinks” and also fumed at his box.

“Kyrgios is such a monumental a**hole. Imagine hurling constant foul-mouthed abuse in a Wimbledon final at your own support team/family for YOUR bad shots?” he tweeted during the final. “Kyrgios has stopped blaming his own Player’s Box supporters and is now blaming a woman spectator ‘who’s had like 700 drinks bro’ for distracting him.

“Kyrgios is insufferably rude, obnoxious, childish, petty, and offensive.” Morgan has previously criticised other tennis players including Marin Cilic and, most prolifically, Emma Raducanu.

The TV host slammed the teenager when she retired from her round-of-16 clash at Wimbledon last year in what was her Grand Slam debut as the 338th-ranked wildcard as he tweeted: “McEnroe told the truth. Ms Raducuna’s a talented player but couldn’t handle the pressure and quit when she was losing badly.

“Not ‘brave’, just a shame. If I were her, I’d tell my fans to stop abusing McEnroe, & seek his advice on how to toughen up and become a champion like he was.” But when she proved her doubters wrong by winning the US Open weeks later, he took credit for her historic triumph as he claimed she had followed his advice by “toughening up”, and he has continued to be one of her biggest critics since.
