Aljamain Sterling has gained more than 40lb less than one week after losing his featherweight title.

Losses impact fighters in different ways and the Funk Master has decided to take a bit of a break. The former UFC bantamweight world champion was left heartbroken after he was knocked out by the controversial and colourful Sean O’Malley in the second round at UFC 292.

He had previously indicated an interest in moving up a weight division to fight Alexander Volkanovski, but said he was reassessing this plan after his damaging loss.

Nevertheless, he seems to be totally committed to his initial plan, as he has undergone a huge body transformation.

When he walked into the Octagon to face O’Malley, he weighed in at exactly 135lb (9.6 stone). Less than one week later, the 34-year-old stepped onto the scales and clocked in at a jaw-dropping 175.5lb (12.5 stone).

Previously, Sterling was the proud owner of a set of chiselled abdominals and enormous arms. However, since his loss, his abs are now barely visible and he looks to be bulkier.

While munching on white chocolate, he turned to the camera on his FunkMasterMMA YouTube channel and said, “I told myself I wasn’t going to get that heavy, but as you can see the process had already begun.” After grimacing into the camera, he laughed and said, “don’t judge me”.

After his defeat, Sterling said he wanted to do some soul-searching as he considered his next move. Instead of going up in weight to fight Volkanovski, the 34-year-old said he wants to take on O’Malley.

“It's 100 per cent what I would like the most,” he said after the match. He could go out there and beat me again; I think it just strengthens his case that he’s as good as he says he is.

“But I think I’ve earned it. I would like to think that I’ve earned my right to get an immediate rematch. Maybe I could do… I don’t want to say a better job because I feel like the guys I trained with were phenomenal, but maybe make it more [purposeful] to have guys that are giving me that look going side to side so that I do a better job of preparing for that.”
