A man has been charged over the burglary of Raheem Sterling's home while the Chelsea and England footballer was away at the World Cup in December last year.

More than £300,000 worth of possessions were taken from the property in Oxshott, Surrey, including jewellery and watches. Sterling was forced to rush home from the tournament to tend to his family, who fortunately weren't in the house at the time of the break-in.

On Wednesday, Surrey Police confirmed that 23-year-old Emiliano Krosi of Southend-on-Sea had been charged with 33 offences of conspiracy to commit burglary.

A spokesperson for the force said Krosi was remanded in custody and that he would appear at Guildford Crown Court on 21 September.

"I beat myself up that I didn't keep my family secure," Sterling told the Sun. "It's one thing I said I would always do, so it wasn't a nice feeling. I couldn't live with myself if anything had come to pass from it.

"It was something I meant to do before going to the World Cup and I didn't so I was beating myself up about it. It's the most scary thing to know with the age of the people living in my house. It's not a nice feeling."
