Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has confirmed Trent Alexander-Arnold will need to undergo a scan to confirm the extent of the injury he picked up in their 3-0 win over Aston Villa. Liverpool were at their scintillating best at home to Aston Villa on Sunday with Dominik Szoboszlai and Mohamed Salah getting on the scoresheet.

Alexander-Arnold helped pull the strings from his more central position, including an exquisite 60-yard pass over the top of Villa’s defence for Liverpool’s second goal. He stepped up to the occasion wearing the captain’s armband in Virgil van Dijk’s absence.

But his impressive display was cut short midway through the second half as he went down clutching his leg. The 24-year-old appeared to know immediately that he wouldn’t be able to continue as he received medical treatment.

And he was visibly uncomfortable as he hobbled off the pitch, raising concerns of a potential injury blow. Klopp stated after the game that Alexander-Arnold doesn’t feel the injury is “too serious”.

However, the Liverpool boss doesn’t want to commit to any good news until a scan is done.

Klopp said: “I don’t know exactly. I asked him, he said it’s [his] hamstring. ‘Not too serious’ is his opinion, but we obviously have to wait for the scans and then we will know more.”

More info

Alexander-Arnold’s injury setback may ruin his chances of being involved in England’s fixtures against Ukraine and Scotland. England boss Gareth Southgate admitted earlier this summer that he will continue to use Alexander-Arnold in midfield.

Southgate said in June: “He’s getting used to it. What was pleasing tonight [against Malta] is he’s getting used to receiving in tight areas with his back to goal with players behind him, whereas he’s used to receiving on the touchline with the play in front of him, and he was very comfortable doing that. I’ve got no questions in my head that he can do it. It’s just learning some nuances of the role.

“Without the ball especially it’s very different for him. But he’s very keen to do it. We talked about it four weeks ago on the phone and I think he’s been excited by it. He showed exactly what he could be capable of and he gives us something different to our other midfielders.”

Source: Read Full Article

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has confirmed Trent Alexander-Arnold will need to undergo a scan to confirm the extent of the injury he picked up in […]

[19
