Christian Horner has opened the door for Lando Norris to join Red Bull when Sergio Perez\u2019s contract expires at the end of the 2024 season. The 23-year-old Brit is contracted with McLaren until the end of 2025.<\/p>\n

Norris has been one of the standout drivers of the 2023 season, registering two P2 finishes in his McLaren at Silverstone and the Hungaroring while dragging the maximum out of his machinery throughout the rest of the campaign.<\/p>\n

These performances, combined with his unflappable consistency throughout his F1 career, have marked him out as an obvious contender to replace Checo at Red Bull should the Mexican driver\u2019s displays fail to improve in the second half of the year.<\/p>\n

Speaking at the Italian Grand Prix, Horner addressed the links with Norris, stating: \u201cHe\u2019s doing a great job in the sport and of course we have our drivers confirmed for \u201924.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn \u201925, we have one seat open and as you can imagine, there\u2019s not a shortage of interest in that seat but it\u2019s a long way away at the moment.\u201c<\/p>\n

Norris\u2019 friendship with Verstappen has marked him out as a clear contender to partner the Dutchman at Red Bull in the future, but the reigning Constructors\u2019 Championship victors could prefer a more traditional, lead-driver dynamic between their line-up.\u00a0<\/p>\n

What is certain is that Checo will need to improve if he is to have any chance of securing an extension on his current deal. The 33-year-old will no doubt be looking over his shoulder heading into the second half of the year.<\/p>\n

While Horner continues to insist that Perez will be staying with the team until his contract expires in 2024, Ralf Schumacher believes that the Mexican will be leaving ahead of schedule.\u00a0<\/p>\n

He told Sky Germany<\/em> after the Dutch Grand Prix: \u201cSergio Perez made another mistake when he hit the barrier at the entrance to the pit lane and earned a penalty for this action, which cost him second place in the end.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think his days at Red Bull are numbered. Dr. Helmut Marko is not exactly known for his warm-hearted way of dealing with Perez. I don’t think Perez as a guy can deal with that very well, which is how I explain these serious mishaps.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cPerez seemed very bad-tempered, disappointed and also absent throughout the weekend. I think there were already agreements regarding a separation after the end of the season.\u201d<\/p>\n
