{"id":287757,"date":"2023-09-06T17:35:05","date_gmt":"2023-09-06T17:35:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sportstoft.com\/?p=287757"},"modified":"2023-09-06T17:35:05","modified_gmt":"2023-09-06T17:35:05","slug":"liverpool-legend-looks-unrecognisable-on-a-holiday-in-barbados","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sportstoft.com\/soccer\/liverpool-legend-looks-unrecognisable-on-a-holiday-in-barbados\/","title":{"rendered":"Liverpool legend looks unrecognisable on a holiday in Barbados"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Liverpool legend looks unrecognisable on a holiday in Barbados, nine years after stepping out of the public eye<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>A ex-Liverpool defender was spotted enjoying a\u00a0Caribbean holiday in\u00a0Barbados\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>The great was central to their success in the 1980s and later became a pundit<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Listen to the latest episode of Mail Sport&#8217;s podcast It&#8217;s All Kicking Off!<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>A Liverpool legend has been spotted with an\u00a0unrecognisable new look while on holiday in Barbados, nearly a decade on from stepping out of the public eye.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The former Reds defender was seen on holiday at the luxury\u00a0Sandy Lane Hotel on the\u00a0Caribbean island.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He had spent 14 years at Liverpool and was a stalwart of their defence during a dominant period for the club during the 1980s.<\/p>\n<p>His career at Anfield saw the club earn eight league titles, as well as lifting the European Cup on three occasions.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/09\/06\/16\/75129013-12487915-image-a-64_1694013744721.jpg\" height=\"797\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>The Liverpool legend was spotted on holiday in the Caribbean on a luxury resort in\u00a0Barbados<\/p>\n<p>Your browser does not support iframes.<\/p>\n<p>The defender also helped the Reds win the FA Cup in 1986 and 1989, as well as winning four consecutive League Cups from 1981-84.<\/p>\n<p>His performances in the triumphs led him being named in the PFA Team of the Year six times.<\/p>\n<p>The former Scotland international, who began his career at\u00a0Partick Thistle, hung up his boots in 1991.<\/p>\n<p>Following the end of his playing career, he snubbed management offers and instead embarked on a 22-year punditry career.<\/p>\n<p>The legendary pundit was best known for his\u00a0infamous \u2018You can\u2019t win anything with kids\u2019 declaration about Manchester United&#8217;s team in\u00a01995, only for Sir Alex Ferguson&#8217;s side to go on to win the title.<\/p>\n<p>The former Liverpool star and BBC punditry legend is of course, Alan Hansen.<\/p>\n<p>Hansen, now 68, had been a stalwart of Match of the Day from 1992 to 2014 serving as the lead pundit on the iconic BBC football highlights programme.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/09\/06\/16\/75130467-12487915-image-a-66_1694015545244.jpg\" height=\"422\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Alan Hansen, right, had been a crucial part of the Liverpool side which dominated in the 1980s<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/09\/06\/16\/75130287-12487915-image-a-65_1694015367516.jpg\" height=\"410\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Hansen enjoyed a legendary punditry career before retiring from the role back in 2014<\/p>\n<p>He decided to retire at the end of his contract in 2014, with his final match as a pundit coming as Germany beat Argentina 1-0 to win the FIFA World Cup.<\/p>\n<p>Hansen revealed in a 2016 interview with Jamie Redknapp that nerves had contributed to the decision to call time on his punditry career.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;After 22 years I kept on telling myself I wouldn\u2019t get so nervous, but it got worse.
