Andy Murray reflects on Wimbledon win a decade since first title<\/h3>\n

Tennis\u00a0fans took to social media and voiced their support for Andy Murray after the British star missed his grandmother\u2019s funeral to play in the Davis Cup on Friday. The three-time Grand Slam winner beat Leandro Riedi in a singles match before giving a teary interview.<\/p>\n

\u201cToday is a tough day for me, it\u2019s actually my\u2026,\u201d Murray said before he then stopped to hold his chest as he tried to compose himself. Fans reacted by applauding as the Scottish star looked down at the court.<\/p>\n

He then added: \u201cIt\u2019s my gran\u2019s funeral today\u2026\u201d Murray again paused and a shout from the crowd of \u2018We love you Andy,\u2019 was heard and further applause. The tennis star apologised to the interviewer before adding: \u201cI\u2019m sorry to my family that I\u2019m not able to be there, Gran that one was for you.\u201d Clearly upset, Murray then returned to his chair.<\/p>\n

Fans were quick to show their support for the tennis star on social media with @ronniegourley commenting: \u201cJust when you think @andy_murray couldn\u2019t be a more impressive and admirable person – not to mention being the ultimate competitor – he does this.\u201d Showing similar support was Moira Bayne who added: \u201cI could not admire this man more. An absolutely wonderful sports legend and human being. RIP Andy\u2019s gran.\u201d<\/p>\n

Despite losing the opening set Murray came fighting back to win the rubber 6-7 (7-9), 6-4, 6-4 to give Great Britain a 1-0 lead in the Davis Cup tie. “I’d never played him before or practiced with him before,\u201d said Murray after beating Riedi. \u201cI knew he was a shot maker but he sustained it for a really long time today and yeah I had to make some adjustments during the match.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe team obviously help a lot with that as well so thanks to them for helping me get through.” Fans were impressed by Murray\u2019s fightback under the difficult circumstances, @jonbrooksnobby added: \u201cWhat a man, putting that performance in under those circumstances.\u201d<\/p>\n

Also showing their support for the two-time Wimbledon champion was @MissBates35 who added: \u201cJust when you think you can’t possibly love and respect Sir @andy_murray any more than you already do!! So sorry for your loss, Andy!!\u201d The performance of Murray has given Britain a boost as they look to book their place in November\u2019s Davis Cup knockout stage.<\/p>\n

The group stage matches are taking place this weekend at Manchester’s AO Arena with the home nation already having beaten Australia. Britain will hope to beat Switzerland to qualify for November’s finals in Malaga before their third and final tie against France on Sunday.<\/p>\n
