Former Derby County boss Billy Davies is reportedly seeking a return to management for the first time in nine years.

Davies, 59, was last in the dug-out at Nottingham Forest in the second of two spells with the East Midlands club. He went off the radar after being sacked midway through the 2013/14 season.

He was highly regarded at Derby beforehand, guiding the Rams to the Premier League in 2007 after winning the play-off final. But his reputation took a hit as the side finished with the top flight's lowest ever points tally the following campaign, where he parted ways just four months into the season.

A report from The Sun has now claimed Davies is hoping to make a comeback. That is despite the level of competition in English football increasing drastically since his most recent spells.

Derby only managed a lowly 11 points in the 2007/08 season. Davies was succeeded by Paul Jewell, who fared no better in scraping results.

The Scot then made the controversial decision to join Derby’s fierce rivals Forest in January 2009. He enjoyed some success, picking up the Championship’s Manager of the Month award twice at the City Ground.

But two failed pushes for promotion saw Forest lose patience with Davies in June 2011. His side had fallen short in the play-off semi-finals in two consecutive seasons.

His reign, which was described as “paranoid” and “self-destructive” by The Guardian in 2014, saw him sacked after a run of eight winless games.

His only other known involvement in football since then was an interview for the Hearts job in 2017, which did not lead to an offer.

Source: Read Full Article

Former Derby County boss Billy Davies is reportedly seeking a return to management for the first time in nine years.
