Chelsea owner Todd Boehly has been criticised by Manchester United legend Gary Neville over the club’s transfer policy. Chelsea have endured a difficult start to the Premier League season, winning just one game so far.

In the first five games of the season, Chelsea have lost two, drawn two and won one, which came in a 3-0 home victory against recently promoted Luton Town. The latest game after the international break resulted in a goalless draw on the road at Bournemouth on Sunday.

Since Boehly became the owner of Chelsea in the summer of 2022, the London club has spent a large amount of money in the transfer market on new players. In the most recent summer transfer window, Chelsea spent a reported £440 million to bring 12 new players to the club.

There were some high-profile sales of players including Kalidou Koulibaly and Edouard Mendy moving to the Saudi Pro League. Other players such as Kai Havertz, Mason Mount, Callum Hudson-Odoi, Mateo Kovacic, Christian Pulisic, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Ethan Ampadu left Stamford Bridge on permanent deals with the club reportedly receiving £222 million in transfer fees.

This was not the first transfer window where Chelsea made a significant overhaul of the team’s roster. The summer and January windows of the 2022-23 season – Boehly’s first as owner – saw the club make headlines for the reported amount of money spent on new players.

Neville, who is a regular analyst of the Premier League for Sky Sports, has criticized Boehly for the way the club has been run since the takeover. The Manchester United legend says that he thinks the “chaotic” activity from the club’s owners creates uncertainty for the coaches, players, and the fans.

“It’s mad, it’s chaotic – the amount of players they bring in, we have been saying it for 15 months!” Neville told Sky Sports on Sunday.

We have seen it with [Manchester] United, that lack of stability at the top since Todd Boehly came in from Roman Abramovich. Every department at the club has changed and it’s too much.”

Neville added: “They just need to stop. Sometimes I say this about my own life but when you feel like you are spinning on a roundabout too fast, you need to stop and allow things to slow down. It must be like that for [manager Mauricio] Pochettino and the fans at the moment. They don’t know who will play from one game to the next.

“The project feels a bit mad with no coordination. I know they are signing young players on long contracts but it is something I am not sure about; Pochettino is a fantastic coach and the club will have to let their manager work it out over a period of time.”

Source: Read Full Article

Chelsea owner Todd Boehly has been criticised by Manchester United legend Gary Neville over the club’s transfer policy.
