Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp reportedly rejected an approach to succeed Hansi Flick as Germany manager, before\u00a0Julian Nagelsmann was appointed this week.<\/p>\n
The German football association (DFB) announced on Friday that\u00a0Nagelsmann would take over as the new manager of the senior men’s national side.<\/p>\n
Nagelsmann put pen to paper on a deal that will keep him in charge until July 31, 2024 – which will see him take charge of the German side for the\u00a0European Championships, which are set to finish on July 14, 2024.<\/p>\n
The 36-year-old’s appointment followed the dismissal of Flick after 4-1 drubbing by Japan.<\/p>\n
According to the Telegraph, the DFB turned to former Bayern boss\u00a0Nagelsmann after Klopp turned down an approach.<\/p>\n

The Liverpool manager reportedly left the organisation in ‘no doubt he was unavailable’ after being sounded out for the role.<\/p>\n
Nagelsmann’s short term contract opens up the possibility the DFB could approach Klopp again after the Euros.<\/p>\n
The 56-year-old had topped a poll of Germany supporters over their choice for manager.<\/p>\n
Klopp’s agent, Marc Kosicke, stressed earlier this month that the Liverpool boss will be honouring his contract with the club, which expires in 2026.<\/p>\n
The Reds manager revealed he was enjoying and excited by the prospect of his Liverpool rebuild following their 3-1 Europa League win over LASK this week.<\/p>\n
‘Massively. From the first day since we got back, I have enjoyed it a lot,’ Klopp said. ‘I was really excited about the rebuild, the new way, the new energy. We decided last year we had to change a lot.<\/p>\n
\u2018But we wanted to change it for good, not because we have to. I am still excited. We are not stable yet, there are so many things not\u2026 but we are really good already. It\u2019s a good start and nothing more.\u2019<\/p>\n
The DFB will hope Nagelsmann can help turn their fortunes around ahead of the European Championships in Germany next year.<\/p>\n

DFB sporting director, Rudi Voller, claimed that Nagelsmann (pictured) was ‘their preferred candidate’\u00a0<\/p>\n
DFB President Bernd Neuendorf claimed on his appointment: ‘Next year’s European Championship is of enormous importance for football in Germany as a whole.<\/p>\n
‘We are convinced that Julian Nagelsmann, as national coach, will ensure that the national team inspires its fans and that the EURO is also a sporting success.\u00a0<\/p>\n
‘Julian Nagelsmann is an outstanding coach who approaches his new task with the highest level of motivation.’<\/p>\n
Speaking on his appointment, Nagelsmann said: ‘We have a European Championship in our own country.<\/p>\n
‘That’s something special – something that happens every few decades. I subordinate everything to the fact of having a great tournament in a great country. I have a great desire to to take on this challenge.<\/p>\n
‘The appearance in Dortmund was the beginning. We will be a close-knit group next year.’<\/p>\n
