Jamie Vardy evoked memories of Emmanuel Adebayor’s iconic celebration by running the full length of the pitch to celebrate scoring for Leicester in front of the travelling Bristol City fans on Saturday.

The former England international netted the winner for Enzo Maresca’s side from the penalty spot in the 67th minute and proceeded to run towards the away fans.

His celebration was a reaction to repeated ‘Jamie Vardy, your wife is a grass’ chants from the away end after his partner Rebekah was involved in a dramatic legal dispute with Wayne Rooney’s wife Coleen in a case dubbed ‘Wagatha Christie’.

Rebekah lost a libel case against Coleen last year after being accused of leaking stories to The Sun newspaper from Coleen’s private Instagram account.

Having tucked home his spot-kick, Vardy evaded grabs from joyous team-mates and ran directly up the opposite end while cupping a hand to his ear much to the annoyance of the 3,300 travelling fans.

Vardy’s celebration echoed similarities to when Emmanuel Adebayor produced a similar celebration against Arsenal in 2009

The 36-year-old then stared down members of the crowd before pointing to his name on the back of his shirt.

He followed that by spreading his arms out while slapping his chest before trudging back towards the halfway line.

The celebration was clearly a way for Vardy to express his emotions and draws similarities to when Emmanuel Adebayor ran the length of the pitch after scoring for Man City against former side Arsenal in 2009.

Adebayor caused chaos in the stands when he slid on his knees to meet the travelling Gunners’ fanbase. He was handed a £25,000 fine and a two-match suspended ban as a result.

It is not the first time Vardy has been taunted by opposition fans, as the striker was also on the receiving end of chants about his wife from Chelsea supporters last year.

He did not score in that game, so there was no Adebayor-esque celebration on that occasion.

But Vardy made his point on Saturday afternoon as he helped the Foxes to their seventh win in eight league outings, leaving them top of the Championship above Ipswich on goal difference.
