Manchester United staff members are reportedly impressed with Sergio Reguilon’s influence on and off the pitch. Manager Erik ten Hag insisted on signing a left-back with top-level experience during the summer, despite some senior figures at Old Trafford pushing for the Dutchman to recruit from within.

Reguilon arrived at United as something of an unknown quantity. The Spaniard has fantastic pedigree, having spent 15 years on the books at Real Madrid, but he fell drastically out of favour following his first two seasons at Tottenham.

The Red Devils pulled the trigger on a simple loan deal on deadline day, with the option to cut it short in January. Reguilon arrived at Old Trafford to provide cover for the injured Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia.

Ten Hag was insistent on bringing in a left-back with experience, defying a group of club chiefs who were reportedly keen to see Alvaro Fernandez given his shot instead.

Reguilon was rewarded with a start against Burnley on Saturday.

United drew a line under a string of dismal results to win 1-0 courtesy of Bruno Fernandes’ stunning volley. Reguilon was substituted before the end of the match, but his willingness to line up in the first place left a good impression on his manager.

“Reguilon was ill,” Ten Hag told TNT Sports after the final whistle. “That tells me something about the character and spirit they want to show. He was ill but wanted to play, wanted to support and contribute for the team.”

With the Red Devils still desperately short of options at full-back, the on-loan Spurs star is likely to get more chances to prove to Ten Hag that he made the correct decision in demanding an experienced deputy.

Source: Read Full Article

Marcus Rashford 'rejected' Man Utd captaincy despite Bruno Fernandes admission Manchester United staff members are reportedly impressed with Sergio Reguilon’s influence on and off the […]

[19
