Football fans have been left retching at the sight of a raw fish and onions sandwich sold by German club Hamburger SV.<\/p>\n
The German second division side offers a herring sandwich for the price of \u00a34.30 (\u20ac5). But even for the price, which is considerably cheaper than half-time grub at football stadiums in the UK, plenty of fans turned their nose up in disgust at the sarnie.<\/p>\n
Hamburg, believed to be the city behind the inspiration for the hamburger after the city became famous in the 19th century for their beef from cows raised in the regional countryside. Have come in for plenty of stick after popular social media page \u2018Footy Scrans\u2019 posted the herring sandwich to their account with over 560,000 followers.<\/p>\n

Followers of the page, who usually swoon over pictures of locally sourced burgers to oriental box meals, were left disgusted by Hamburger\u2019s raw fish grub. One comment on Twitter read: \u201cIs it supposed to be cooked all the way or no?\u201d A second added: \u201cIs that herring and raw onions in a roll? Jesus Christ man.\u201d<\/p>\n
While others said they felt ill just looking at the picture, another comment read: \u201cI think I just threw up a little bit in my mouth,\u201d with another adding: "I'm literally gagging looking at it."<\/p>\n

But some fearless fans in the comments section argued back that they would look forward to eating it, although herring sarnies are unlikely to be a common hit at football grounds across the UK anytime soon. One fan claimed: \u201cAm I the only Brit who thinks it looks tasty? Definitely would eat that,\u201d whilst a second said: \u201cThe cheeseburger brigade in the comments don't know what they're missing – This and a pint would go down lovely.\u201d<\/p>\n
Hamburger were relegated to the 2.Bundesliga in 2018 for the first time in the Bundesliga\u2019s 55-year history, sparking riots from fans in the stands. The 1983 European Cup winners are currently in their 6th campaign in the second-tier and currently sit 3rd in the table behind Dusseldorf and St. Pauli.<\/p>\n
