Football supporters have had their say on the funniest chants \u2013 with an ode to Peter Crouch coming top. \u201cHe’s big, he’s red, his feet stick out the bed\u201d dates back to the six-foot-six star\u2019s Liverpool career, where he played from 2005 to 2008.<\/p>\n
Second spot went to \u201cWhen you’re sat in row Z, and the ball hits your head, that’s Zamora\u201d \u2013 an affectionate tribute to ex-West Ham striker Bobby Zamora, set to Dean Martin\u2019s \u201cThat’s Amore\u201d.<\/p>\n
And \u201cChelsea, wherever you may be, keep your wife from John Terry\u201d came third \u2013 a dig at the former Stamford Bridge captain, after his affair with the partner of then teammate Wayne Bridge.<\/p>\n
The research was commissioned by CopyBet.com, which has also created a quiz featuring a series of questions on classic terrace anthems past and present.<\/p>\n
The poll of 2,000 adults, who watch football, found humour (61 percent) and banter (42 percent) are key characteristics to a \u201cgood\u201d chant.<\/p>\n
And 81 percent reckon chants as a crucial part of the atmosphere at live matches.<\/p>\n
A spokesman for the betting platform said: \u201cFootball fans never miss a chance to enjoy some banter at the expense of their rivals.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs the study shows, chants are integral to the live match experience \u2013 and a fascinating, enduring link between the modern game and eras gone by.<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd while spectators of other sports do enjoy a good song when cheering on their teams, football fans are on another level.\u201d<\/p>\n
Other chants in the top 10 include \u201cStand up if you pay your tax\u201d \u2013 a chant aimed at Harry Redknapp after he was investigated for tax fraud.<\/p>\n
And \u201cYour teeth are offside\u201d is about controversial ex-Liverpool star Luiz Suarez and his prominent gnashers \u2013 although he hasn\u2019t helped himself, having bitten several opposition players.<\/p>\n
When it comes to more traditional terrace songs, \u201cYou’re not singing anymore\u201d, \u201cSacked in the morning, you\u2019re getting sacked in the morning\u201d, and \u201cWho ate all the pies?\u201d came top.<\/p>\n
These were followed by \u201cQue sera sera, whatever will be, will be, we\u2019re going to Wembley\u201d, and \u201cYou only sing when you\u2019re winning\u201d \u2013 something 29 percent of fans admit they do.<\/p>\n
Of the 72 percent of supporters who enjoy a good sing when watching football, most (53 percent) \u201calways\u201d or \u201coften\u201d do so when cheering on their side live in the stadium.<\/p>\n

However, 22 percent \u201calways\u201d or \u201coften\u201d belt out a few numbers when enjoying a match down the pub, and 28 percent even do so when watching football on the TV.<\/p>\n
The study, carried out through OnePoll, found Liverpool fans create the best atmosphere in the Premier League, followed by Manchester United and Newcastle United.<\/p>\n
And in Scotland, it\u2019s the Celtic fans who generate the best atmosphere at games, followed by Glasgow rivals Rangers, and then Aberdeen.<\/p>\n
The best club anthem, according to those polled, also went to Liverpool and Celtic, with \u201cYou’ll Never Walk Alone\u201d most popular with fans.<\/p>\n
Following close behind in second place was \u201cGlory Glory Man United\u201d, while Stoke\u2019s \u201cDelilah\u201d secured third place.<\/p>\n
The spokesman for CopyBet.com added: \u201cMusic \u2013 whether it\u2019s through chants, through club anthems, through walk-out music, or even when goals are scored \u2013 plays a major role in football.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis study just touches on the influence both have upon one another. While the game continues to develop and advance, football chants show no signs of ever dying out, and remain a popular element of the matchday experience for fans.\u201d<\/p>\n
