Sydney co-captain Callum Mills has undergone shoulder surgery after he was injured at a post-season event.<\/p>\n

The Swans released a statement on Tuesday night confirming that Mills was recovering from successful surgery performed last week.<\/p>\n

Channel Seven reported earlier on Tuesday that Mills had hurt himself while wrestling a teammate during a Mad Monday post-season drinks event.<\/p>\n

Sydney said the co-captain\u2019s recovery timeline was still to be confirmed.<\/p>\n

Charlie Gardiner, Sydney\u2019s executive general manager of football, said the injury was upsetting.<\/p>\n

\u201cLosing players to injury in the off-season is always disappointing,\u201d Gardiner said.<\/p>\n

\u201cCallum is our captain and an important member of the squad. We are extremely disappointed this injury has occurred.<\/p>\n

\u201cCallum is equally disappointed, as you can imagine, but he is recovering well and will get to work on his rehabilitation immediately.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mills is a veteran of 155 games for the Swans after making his debut in 2016 and playing in the club\u2019s lost grand final to the Western Bulldogs.<\/p>\n

Mills polled well in the 2021 (18 votes) and 2022 (21 votes) Brownlow Medal counts, but picked up only three votes in this year\u2019s award on Monday night.<\/p>\n

The midfielder also suffered an accidental off-field injury in 2018 after he tripped while walking back from a cafe and throwing a gridiron ball. Mills broke his foot and had to miss the rest of that season.<\/p>\n
