Nyck de Vries has agreed to return to racing in Formula E just two months after he was unceremoniously sacked by AlphaTauri halfway through his debut F1 season. The Dutchman was signed to partner Yuki Tsunoda at the start of this year but quickly saw his hopes of excelling in F1 go up in smoke.

De Vries, who won the Formula E title in 2020/21, failed to score a single point in F1 before he was replaced by Daniel Ricciardo after just 10 races. He then announced that he was stepping back from racing to study negotiation and leadership at the prestigious Harvard Business School.

His short break did not last long, though, with the 28-year-old having already confirmed that he will soon be returning to motorsport. He has signed a multi-year deal with the Mahindra team in Formula E and will partner Eduardo Mortara upon his return to the all-electric series ahead of next year.

“It’s really exciting to be joining such a major automotive manufacturer as Mahindra and to represent them in Formula E,” said De Vries. “I’m particularly excited about the future plans for the team. The basis is already strong and the team has all the attributes to succeed.

I believe the team can continue to build on those learnings, and with the additional changes and plans in place for the future, we can make even greater steps forward in performance at the start of our new journey together.”

We use your sign-up to provide content in ways you’ve consented to and to improve our understanding of you. I’m looking forward to being back in a familiar environment and to be back somewhere where ultimately, I’ve always enjoyed my racing.”

De Vries previously spent three years in Formula E with the Mercedes team, winning his only world title in 2021, before getting his F1 breakthrough with a stand-in performance for Williams at Monza in 2022. He will get his first outing with Mahindra when pre-season testing begins in October before the new campaign gets underway at the Mexico City E-Prix in January.

Follow our Express Sport page on Instagram here.

Source: Read Full Article

Lewis Hamilton commits to Mercedes until 2025 Nyck de Vries has agreed to return to racing in Formula E just two months after he was […]

[21
