{"id":290347,"date":"2023-09-28T12:34:50","date_gmt":"2023-09-28T12:34:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sportstoft.com\/?p=290347"},"modified":"2023-09-28T12:34:50","modified_gmt":"2023-09-28T12:34:50","slug":"scunthorpe-united-announce-their-owner-has-withdrawn-funding","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sportstoft.com\/soccer\/scunthorpe-united-announce-their-owner-has-withdrawn-funding\/","title":{"rendered":"Scunthorpe United announce their owner has withdrawn funding"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>Scunthorpe United announce owner David Hilton has withdrawn funding with the club forced to vacate their Glanford Park stadium amid an ongoing legal row<\/h1>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Scunthorpe chairman David Hilton put the non-league club up for sale last week\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Hilton has now withdrawn funding as he actively seeks a way out of the club<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Mail Sport&#8217;s new WhatsApp Channel: Get the breaking news and exclusives here\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Scunthorpe United have announced the club&#8217;s owner\u00a0David Hilton has withdrawn funding from the club moving forwards after deeming his position to be &#8216;untenable&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>David Hilton, who bought Scunthorpe in January, announced he was putting the club up for sale in a statement last week, revealing it was &#8216;available to purchase to the right people&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>In his statement, the Scunthorpe chairman urged that the National League North side had chalked up a &#8216;significant amount of debt&#8217; and were also locked in &#8216;ongoing legal battles costing thousands each month&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>Hilton, who has become an unpopular figure at Glanford Park since his takeover, has controversially attempted to ban dissenting fans from the stadium this week.<\/p>\n<p>Scunthorpe issued a statement confirming Hilton is &#8216;actively seeking a way out&#8217;, with board members\u00a0Ian Dawson and Tahina Akther resigning from their positions.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/09\/28\/12\/75826043-12570801-Scunthorpe_United_s_chairman_David_Hilton_pictured_put_the_club_-a-28_1695901728915.jpg\" height=\"420\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Scunthorpe United&#8217;s chairman David Hilton (pictured) put the club up for sale last week<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/09\/28\/12\/75825687-12570801-A_general_view_of_Glanford_Park_ahead_of_Scunthorpe_s_clash_with-a-29_1695901748921.jpg\" height=\"436\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>The club have announced they will vacate their Glanford Park stadium amid a legal row<\/p>\n<p>Your browser does not support iframes.<\/p>\n<p>Cost-cutting measures will now take place ahead of a potential takeover of the club.<\/p>\n<p><span>&#8216;We can confirm that numerous parties have made contact with the club with a view to taking over, but faced with stadium issues, numerous litigation proceedings and winding up petitions no potential purchasers are looking to move forward,&#8217; a club statement read.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>&#8216;This includes the consortium of local business people and supporters.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&#8216;The Chairman and remaining board members have now set out a plan in order to very quickly make the club sustainable.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;An outside company will be bought in to work closely with the club&#8217;s creditors to try and ensure all are paid in a timely and professional manner.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>The club also confirmed it will vacate their\u00a0Glanford Park stadium following their upcoming match against\u00a0Brackley Town on October 7.<\/p>\n<p>Scunthorpe will play their remaining\u00a0National League North fixtures at Gainsborough Trinity this season.<\/p>\n<p>The move comes amid an ongoing legal battle between Hilton and\u00a0Scunthorpe&#8217;s former owner\u00a0Peter Swann, who still owns the ground through his company Coolsilk.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/09\/28\/12\/75826289-12570801-The_chairman_has_controversially_attempted_to_ban_dissenting_fan-a-30_1695901846187.jpg\" height=\"413\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Scunthorpe will leave their stadium\u00a0following their upcoming match against Brackley Town<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;This is not a day-to-day cost cutting exercise.
