Tottenham enlisted the help of a trumpet player to get the crowd going ahead of their clash with Liverpool, and rivals thought it was a bit much.<\/p>\n

The lone trumpeter blasted out a rendition of Spurs' classic pre-match song 'Oh When The Saints Go Marching In' and although the home crowd seemed to be enjoying themselves, fans on social media were severely unimpressed. Many slammed it for being "cringe" and others argued it was downright ear-splitting.<\/p>\n

"What are Spurs playing at with this pre-match trumpet? Like a massive mosquito has been let loose around the stadium," one fan joked on X (formerly Twitter). "That trumpet to get the fans going is so cringe," another said.<\/p>\n

"That Tottenham trumpet is the most embarrassing thing I've seen at football," wrote third supporter, while a fourth added: "How embarrassing taking a trumpet to a football match. Something you'd expect from Tottenham."<\/p>\n

Gary Neville on commentary wasn't a fan of it either. Though the Manchester United legend bizarrely managed to mistake it for a bugle – an admittedly similar-looking, though not nearly as famous, brass instrument.<\/p>\n

The trumpet appeared to do some good for the home side, who found themselves a man up mid-way through the first half after Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones was sent off for ugly collision with Yves Bissouma. A few minutes later Tottenham took the lead, with Heung-min Son tapping home a Richarlison cross from close-range.<\/p>\n

Liverpool hit back right on half-time through Cody Gakpo, who smashed the ball past Guglielmo Vicario on the turn after latching on to a Virgil van Dijk knock-down. The two teams had disallowed goals too, with Luis Diaz and Son both having strikes ruled out for marginal offsides.<\/p>\n
