{"id":290959,"date":"2023-10-03T17:26:47","date_gmt":"2023-10-03T17:26:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sportstoft.com\/?p=290959"},"modified":"2023-10-03T17:26:47","modified_gmt":"2023-10-03T17:26:47","slug":"tom-cleverley-reveals-how-he-angered-roy-keane","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sportstoft.com\/soccer\/tom-cleverley-reveals-how-he-angered-roy-keane\/","title":{"rendered":"Tom Cleverley reveals how he angered Roy Keane"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>Roy Keane &#8216;sent me a mouthful&#8217; when I told him I was planning on signing for Everton instead of Aston Villa in 2014, reveals Tom Cleverley as he admits to &#8216;nervousness&#8217; when he did eventually join Villa assistant on loan<\/h1>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Everton and Aston Villa wanted to sign Tom Cleverley on loan from Man United<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>The midfielder had agreed to joined the Toffees but the move fell through\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>CLICK HERE to listen to the latest episode of Mail Sport&#8217;s &#8216;It&#8217;s All Kicking Off&#8217;<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Tom Cleverley has revealed that he incurred the wrath of Roy Keane when he told him that he was going to join Everton instead of Aston Villa.<\/p>\n<p>Cleverley, who retired this year, spent over a decade on the books at Manchester United a was loaned to a number of clubs during that time.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>After a few years of first team action it became clear that a loan move would make sense for the 2014-15 season.<\/p>\n<p>Aston Villa, where Keane was assistant manager, eventually secured his services but only after a deal with Everton fell through.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to Ben Foster on his YouTube channel, Cleverley explained all and said: &#8216;Before the Villa loan, I had been to Roy&#8217;s house because we lived very close to each other.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/10\/03\/17\/76122123-0-image-a-1_1696351001641.jpg\" height=\"357\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Tom Cleverley has spoken on how he ended up joining Aston Villa on loan in 2014<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/10\/03\/17\/76122133-12589635-image-a-11_1696351124340.jpg\" height=\"659\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Cleverley had told Villa assistant manager Roy Keane that he planned to join Everton\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;He sold me the Villa project, he was assistant to Paul Lambert at the time, I really liked the idea of it.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;I was also speaking to Roberto Martinez at Everton, who I had worked with [in 2010\/11].<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;I probably should have been a bit more transparent and said I was speaking to Everton as well.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;Anyway, I didn&#8217;t commit to Villa but I sort of said &#8216;oh yeah, I hope we can get things done&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>Foster interjected and said: &#8216;You were c***-teasing them basically?&#8217;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/10\/03\/17\/76122119-0-image-a-3_1696351036028.jpg\" height=\"419\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>The move to Everton fell through and the midfielder did eventually sign with the Villains\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Cleverley replied: &#8216;I don&#8217;t want to admit to that!<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;Deadline day, I basically out of respect text Roy and said I&#8217;m gonna sign for Everton.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;He has sent me back a mouthful, not happy. Anyway, the deal between United and Everton fell through. I ended up going to Villa on loan.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;The next day, I trained at Villa. He weren&#8217;t there, he was with Ireland duty.
