{"id":291294,"date":"2023-10-05T15:24:33","date_gmt":"2023-10-05T15:24:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sportstoft.com\/?p=291294"},"modified":"2023-10-05T15:24:33","modified_gmt":"2023-10-05T15:24:33","slug":"chris-sutton-calls-jurgen-klopps-replay-calls-dangerous","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sportstoft.com\/soccer\/chris-sutton-calls-jurgen-klopps-replay-calls-dangerous\/","title":{"rendered":"Chris Sutton calls Jurgen Klopp&apos;s &apos;replay&apos; calls &apos;dangerous&apos;"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>Jurgen Klopp&#8217;s calls for Liverpool&#8217;s game with Tottenham to be replayed\u00a0 is a &#8216;DANGEROUS route to go down,&#8217; insists Chris Sutton on It&#8217;s All Coming Up&#8230; as he insists clubs will be calling for matches to be replayed every week<\/h1>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Jurgen Klopp called for Liverpool&#8217;s match with Tottenham to be replayed\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Chris Sutton previously described Klopp&#8217;s replay call as &#8216;utter tripe&#8217;\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Listen to the latest episode of Mail Sport&#8217;s podcast &#8216;It&#8217;s All Kicking Off&#8217;<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Chris Sutton believes Jurgen Klopp is taking football down a &#8216;dangerous route&#8217; after he called for Liverpool&#8217;s defeat with Tottenham to be replayed.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The German felt that a replay &#8216;was the right thing to do&#8217; after Luis Diaz&#8217;s goal was wrongly disallowed by the VAR.<\/p>\n<p>Audio footage released shows VAR official Darren England saying the check was &#8216;perfect&#8217; before swearing when he realises that the on-field decision was offside &#8211; when the Colombian was clearly on.<\/p>\n<p>Chris Sutton\u00a0previously told Mail Sport\u00a0 that Klopp&#8217;s call for Liverpool&#8217;s game against Tottenham to be replayed was &#8216;utter tripe&#8217;.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Mail Sport&#8217;s Ian Ladyman insisted he didn&#8217;t agree with Klopp&#8217;s belief, but said that he &#8216;might be a little bit more respectful&#8217; to one of the game&#8217;s most celebrated managers.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/10\/05\/15\/76206733-12598105-image-m-28_1696514876203.jpg\" height=\"539\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Jurgen Klopp controversially called for Liverpool&#8217;s match against Tottenham to be replayed<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/10\/05\/15\/76206735-12598105-image-a-29_1696514897490.jpg\" height=\"422\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>VAR made a mistake in disallowing Luis Diaz&#8217;s goal which would have given the Reds the lead against Tottenham &#8211; in a match that finished 2-1 to Ange Postecoglou&#8217;s side\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/10\/05\/15\/76206785-12598105-image-a-30_1696514935407.jpg\" height=\"422\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Sutton says Klopp is taking football down a &#8216;dangerous route&#8217; by calling for a replay<\/p>\n<p>Sutton fired back: &#8216;How would you describe it then? How would you describe a situation where we now want games replayed because of refereeing errors, human errors? That&#8217;s what happen &#8211; where will this lead.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;Every week we&#8217;ll have clubs calling for games to be replayed. It&#8217;s absolute tripe. It&#8217;s absolute nonsense.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>Sutton went on to say that Klopp&#8217;s call for a replay is a &#8216;dangerous route&#8217; to go down.<\/p>\n<p>He said: &#8216;To<span>\u00a0even go down that route, it&#8217;s actually a dangerous route to go down. And, you know, it&#8217;s interesting. I said this on the show on Monday, who is going to want to actually be a referee with that pressure on them, that scrutiny on them?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>&#8216;I mean Darren England England must be feeling bad enough. How he comes back from this, I don&#8217;t know.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>&#8216;Jurgen Klopp shouldn&#8217;t have gone down that route about playing a game again, because it&#8217;s dangerous. It&#8217;s where it leads.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>&#8216;You can imagine weekly that managers from clubs saying we were wrong there. We need to play the game again. That&#8217;s not fair.&#8217;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Debate around the mistake at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium heated up again when VAR released the audio which showed how the error was made.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/10\/05\/15\/76207005-12598105-image-a-37_1696515034069.jpg\" height=\"428\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Sutton previously described Klopp&#8217;s calls for the game to be played again as &#8216;utter tripe&#8217;\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span>Ladyman said that &#8216;nothing new&#8217; was learned as he slammed the &#8216;ridiculous assertion&#8217; that there had been a &#8216;conspiracy or that mistakes had been made on purpose&#8217;.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Sutton said that the most &#8216;galling thing&#8217; was how &#8216;chaotic things were&#8217; at Stockley Park and that the mistake was &#8216;always bound to happen&#8217; due to the frenzied nature of the communication.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>He added: &#8216;T<\/span>he chaos from the VAR hub to the referee and the language used, you could see that so many voices there, there was always going to be a misunderstanding at some stage and it happened on the biggest stage of all and it&#8217;s led to all this controversy.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;But they don&#8217;t actually need to be clearer in the way they go about making these decisions, don&#8217;t they?
