The Minstermen took on Dagenham & Redbridge away from home in the National League on Tuesday night. The visitors broke Daggers hearts by netting two goals, courtesy of Lenell John-Lewis and Dipo Akinyemi, in the final minutes of the game.

To rub salt in the wounds, York resorted to some classic time-wasting in a bid to see out all three points. None more so than midfielder Dan Batty who, when taking a free-kick in the 98th minute, deliberately walloped the ball over the stands and into the car park in true non-league fashion.

The clip has since gone viral after being posted by York’s official Twitter account, after a fan requested footage of the hilarious moment. And Batty’s savage efforts to see his team over the line received plenty of praise online as the video racked up over 1.3million views.

One Twitter user wrote: “Elite levels of time wasting housery,” while another tweeted: “Last minute game management at its finest”

A third added: “You’ve absolutely no idea how much I rate this. Being a s**thouse is a top tier trait. Would like to declare Dan Batty is my new favourite footballer.”

Others chimed in by commenting: “That is the finest thing I have ever seen,” and: “Football heritage.”

Without a multi-ball system in place in the National League, the cheeky time-wasting ended up being the final dagger in Dagenham hearts. The struggling home side were leapfrogged by York in the table, who moved one place ahead in 18th.

It was a tough blow to the east Londoners, who came close to scoring several times in the first-half. Charley Kendall had shot wide, Josh Rees fired over and Ryan Whitley tipped Ryan Hill's curling effort over the crossbar, before Hill opened the scoring on the hour mark.
