{"id":291652,"date":"2023-10-08T12:39:30","date_gmt":"2023-10-08T12:39:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sportstoft.com\/?p=291652"},"modified":"2023-10-08T12:39:30","modified_gmt":"2023-10-08T12:39:30","slug":"ex-man-city-midfielder-fernando-furious-after-first-half-substitution","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sportstoft.com\/soccer\/ex-man-city-midfielder-fernando-furious-after-first-half-substitution\/","title":{"rendered":"Ex-Man City midfielder Fernando furious after first half substitution"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>Sevilla veteran Fernando clashes with his manager Jose Luis Mendilibar and wags his finger in anger as he&#8217;s hooked off before half-time &#8211; with the boss admitting he was &#8216;HURT&#8217; by the substitution despite his side&#8217;s dramatic late comeback<\/h1>\n<ul>\n<li><span>Former Man City midfielder Fernando was unhappy after being substituted<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>Sevilla came from two goals down to draw 2-2 with Rayo Vallecano<\/span><\/li>\n<li><strong>Listen to the latest episode of Mail Sport&#8217;s podcast &#8216;It&#8217;s All Kicking Off!&#8217;<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>One-time Manchester City man Fernando was left furious at Sevilla manager Jose Luis Mendilibar after he was substituted before half-time in a 2-2 draw against Rayo Vallecano.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Brazilian midfielder was replaced by Ivan Rakitic in the 40th minute of the game at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan with Sevilla trailing by two goals.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Fernando, who started the game as captain of his side, was not best pleased by the decision, handing Rakitic the armband before repeatedly wagging his finger in the direction of his manager.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The 36-year-old eventually made his way down the tunnel to the dressing rooms after he had let his feelings be known.<\/p>\n<p>Mendilibar was surely left feeling vindicated by the end of the game, as second-half goals from Djibril Sow and Youssef En-Nesyri rescued a point for his struggling side.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/10\/08\/10\/76298539-12607263-image-a-14_1696758335960.jpg\" height=\"665\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Fernando was less than pleased after being substituted in the 40th minute of Sevilla&#8217;s 2-2 draw against Rayo Vallecano<\/p>\n<p>Your browser does not support iframes.<\/p>\n<p>The Sevilla boss remained level-headed when explaining the decision to substitute Fernando though, insisting it was for purely tactical reasons.<\/p>\n<p>He said: &#8216;I know that the substituted player is going to feel screwed, but it\u2019s not because I\u2019ve seen him as the worst on the team. I\u2019ve talked to him and he\u2019s hurt.
