Football fans hoping for a bumper Super Sunday after the international break have been left disappointed.

Premier League supporters have grown accustomed to two, and sometimes three, live games on a Sunday. However, today there will be just one, Aston Villa vs West Ham at 4.30pm.

The reason? Manchester United ’s trip to Sheffield United was due to be the earlier 2pm kick-off. However, because of the Red Devils’ Champions League commitments – they travel to Copenhagen for a must-win game on Tuesday – the match was brought forward to Saturday night (8pm).

A rule was implemented at the beginning of the 2022-23 season to allow Premier League teams more time to recover before and after playing European matches. It’s not the first time fans have been left feeling short-changed on a so-called ‘Super Sunday’.

Nottingham Forest’s 1-1 draw with Brentford on October 1 was the only game that day too. The recent lack of Sunday action has left some fans fuming, with one demanding: “Fix Super Sunday. We've gone from three games to one.”

Another fumed: "Who the f*** decided there would be one game this Sunday and it would be Villa vs West Ham whilst Man City vs Brighton is Saturday 3pm?" A third raged: "Coming off an international break and all we've got is Aston Villa vs West Ham at 4:30pm. Horrendous."

A fourth sarcastically quipped: "I see we're in for another thrilling Super Sunday on Sky Sports. Fantastic lineup of fixtures."

There was at a busy Saturday to enjoy with three televised matches, plus five 3pm kick-offs in the Premier League. The Merseyside derby between Liverpool and Everton kicked things off at 12.30pm on TNT Sports (formerly BT Sport). Sky Sports showed Chelsea vs Arsenal and Sheffield United vs Manchester United back to back from 5.30pm.
