Charles Leclerc was left furious during the United States Grand Prix after Ferrari first left him out to dry on an inferior strategy before giving him team orders to concede a position to team-mate Carlos Sainz.

Leclerc’s race was nothing short of miserable from start to finish with the polesitter losing the lead to Lando Norris on the run down to turn one before settling into his rhythm.

Both Leclerc and Sainz struggled to extract competitive pace from the SF-23 with the leading trio of Norris, Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton moving out of sight as the race progressed.

With the Monegasque driver showing underwhelming pace on the medium compound tyres, Ferrari opted to let him run long, putting Leclerc on the hard tyres to run to the end on a one-stop strategy.

Unfortunately for the Scuderia, this proved to be the inferior strategy with Leclerc comfortably picked off by all of the frontrunners before falling into the clutches of his team-mate, as well as Red Bull’s Sergio Perez.

With 15 laps remaining Ferrari dialled into Leclerc’s radio with his engineer instructing him to give way to Sainz, who went on to close down Norris in the fight for P3.

Leclerc was far from impressed by this decision as he was forced to watch the No.55 car disappear off into the distance, protesting: “Why did I have to let Sainz by? Let’s talk after the race.”
