Amir Khan suggested he could have been even better if he did not enjoy the occasional shisha.

The Bolton-born ace enjoyed one of the most successful boxing careers this country has ever seen. As well as winning a silver medal in the 2004 Olympic Games, Khan also became one of Britain’s youngest ever world champions when he captured the WBA title at the age of 22.

He has carved out a huge legacy, particularly in the British Pakistani communities whom he has helped trail-blaze a path into boxing for. However, Khan appeared to hint he could well have been even better.

“I wish I didn’t smoke it but it was one of those things that I used to do and maybe stop like a couple of weeks before a fight.”

Shisha is a specially prepared form of tobacco that is lit on fire and smoked through a pipe. It can come in a wide variety of flavours and is often seen in the porches of bars and clubs and at music festivals.

Nevertheless, Khan still managed to retire with an impressive record of 34 victories, 21 knockouts and six losses. His losses came at the hands of Breidis Prescott, Lamont Peterson, Danny Garcia, Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez, Terence Crawford and Kell Brook.

His finest achievement came when he became the unified light-welterweight champion in 2011 by knocking out Zab Judah in Las Vegas. He hung up his gloves after being emphatically defeated by Kell Brook last year. However, with rumours of a potential fight with Manny Pacquiao still heating up, he may need to stay off the shisha again.
