Daniel Sturridge named Chelsea as the club that will suit Brentford striker Ivan Toney the most if he pursues a transfer, while Jamie Carragher argued the Englishman should be targeted by Arsenal to help them win the Premier League.

Toney is currently into the second part of his eight-month ban for breaching FA betting rules and has not played since playing the full game against Liverpool in May.

His suspension from playing competitively ends on January 16 and Toney is already being tipped for a move away from the Bees with Arsenal one of the club’s most prominently linked with a move.

The Gunners lack a consistent Premier League goalscorer upfront when without Gabriel Jesus, however, Toney would provide an attacking threat that Mikel Arteta’s side have largely missed.

Sturridge, formerly of Liverpool and Chelsea, believes all the top clubs in the Premier League would want to bring in Toney, but explained his style is most suited to the football on show at Stamford Bridge.

Jamie Carragher (left) instructed Arsenal to make a move for Toney while Daniel Sturridge believes Chelsea would suit his style the most

‘I would say he will suit Chelsea the most, he could play for Spurs. I’m not sure who needs him most as they all need him.

‘He is a top striker and deserves that opportunity, Evan Ferguson is another one, I believe he has that killer instinct and the way he scores and finishes. I look at him and can see he is driven by goals and wants to do it.’

Carragher offered his own analysis of Toney’s talents and urged Arsenal to take a chance on the 27-year-old proven goalscorer and matchwinner.

Toney previously played for Peterborough after a difficult time at Newcastle before moving to Brentford where has since scored 32 goals in the English top-flight.

Carragher said: ‘Yes he could [join Arsenal] and he is a different type of striker.

‘Huge fan of his but making jump to a big club and can you not cope with the scrutiny, there’s not that expectation against Brentford.

‘No doubt that the quality is there, but take Arsenal to title? Arsenal might need to take that chance if they don’t fix that position and the goalkeeper situation then difficult to overhaul Man City.’
