Destiny Udogie was lucky and Cristian Romero was petulant&#8230; Michael Oliver and VAR John brooks were tested to the limit<\/h1>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Chelsea beat Tottenham 4-1 on Monday in what was a fiery encounter\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Cristian Romero and Destiny Udogie were both sent off during the match\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>CHRIS SUTTON: Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is a clown &#8211; It&#8217;s All Kicking Off<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This was mayhem, like some sort of sequel to \u2018The Battle of the Bridge\u2019 in 2016.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>That was the hardest match I ever had to referee and this game was as hectic for the officiating team to govern.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>There were crunching challenges, petulant kicks, penalty claims, disallowed goals, potential elbows \u2013 and that was only in the first half!\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It was the type of contest that required the officiating team to be at their very best.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Referee Michael Oliver and VAR John Brooks had to apply the laws but also manage the spectacle, and they were tested to their limits with what happened here\u2026\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/11\/06\/22\/77475379-0-image-a-27_1699311344399.jpg\" height=\"357\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Destiny Udogie could have received a red card in the opening 20 minutes of Chelsea&#8217;s 4-1 victory against Tottenham for this challenge on Raheem Sterling<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/11\/06\/22\/77475319-0-It_was_a_fiery_match_that_also_saw_Cristian_Romero_kick_out_at_L-a-34_1699311513620.jpg\" height=\"481\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>It was a fiery match that also saw Cristian Romero kick out at Levi Colwill in the first half<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/11\/06\/22\/77479565-0-image-a-32_1699311429227.jpg\" height=\"486\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Michael Oliver and his officials were tested to the limit during the thrilling affair with VAR John Brooks being called into action on several occasions<\/p>\n<p>Your browser does not support iframes.<\/p>\n<h2>Udogie escapes red &#8211; Wrong decision\u00a0<\/h2>\n<p>Destiny Udogie was lucky for two reasons. One, because Raheem Sterling pulled his leg away to prevent a serious injury.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Two, because Brooks did not tell Oliver that this challenge was worthy of a red. Udogie was airborne, leading with two feet, with studs showing.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It is precisely this type of challenge which needs outlawing from football.<\/p>\n<h2>Romero kicks out &#8211; Right decision\u00a0<\/h2>\n<p>Pure petulance off the ball from Cristian Romero on Levi Colwill but not violent, so it was right that he avoided red.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Raheem Sterling\u2019s goal in the aftermath needed disallowing due to his handball immediately before scoring.<\/p>\n<h2>Romero sees red &#8211; Right decision\u00a0<\/h2>\n<p>Once it was established that Moises Caicedo\u2019s strike needed disallowing \u2014 due to Nicolas Jackson interfering from an offside position \u2014 attention turned to Romero\u2019s challenge on Enzo Fernandez.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m not surprised this resulted in a red as well as a penalty. Romero flew into a challenge and took a huge risk, even though he clearly won the ball.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/11\/06\/22\/77475321-0-image-a-30_1699311384454.jpg\" height=\"357\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Romero was subsequently shown a red card for this challenge on Enzo Fernandez, while also conceding a penalty that allowed Chelsea to pull level at 1-1<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/11\/06\/22\/77479517-0-image-a-33_1699311441203.jpg\" height=\"509\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Udogie was shown a second yellow card in the second half after wiping out Sterling\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Football has changed so much and now playing the ball is not enough to save someone from red.<\/p>\n<p>James whacks Udogie but stays on &#8211; Right decision\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>James was using his arm to jump, not to endanger.
