Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff has slapped a strict ban on gambling when his employees head to Las Vegas.

F1 will hold its first race in Sin City since the 1982 Caesar's Palace Grand Prix, in what is set to be one of the most glamorous and glitzy race circuits in the sport's history. There may be no jeopardy in regard to the Championship, but motorsport fans are eager to see what the iconic Nevada city has to offer.

The sport has reportedly parted with up to $500million, (£407m) to bring the race to Las Vegas. However, while drivers and team members may have one eye on post-race activities in the city, Wolff, 51, insisted there will be no gambling.

"I think everyone is looking forward to the Las Vegas race," Wolff said to Motorsport.com Spain. "Racing in this city is comparable to climbing Everest, hats off to Liberty Media for organising this race.

“I don't think I'm the only one in Formula One who has never been to this city, which is quite difficult to get around. We don't know how to get from the hotel to the circuit and back, but I'm sure we'll find a solution.

"I'm looking forward to the race.” After he offered his thoughts on the event itself, Wolff was then brought to the elephant in the room – Las Vegas' host of naughty activities.

"As I said, I've never been to Las Vegas," he began. "But we'll do our best to make sure everyone in the team stays away from the casinos. I don't gamble and I'll make sure no one else gambles either!"

That was an almost ominous message from the Mercedes chief. Wolff is likely still in a foul mood, after his team's poor performance at the Brazilian Grand Prix in Sao Paulo.

Lewis Hamilton and George Russell finished eighth and 15th respectively on an afternoon Wolff described as "inexcusable."
