Everton will fight the points deduction from the Premier League after they were sensationally docked 10 points.

The findings from an independent commission, who heard the case over the club’s breach of profit and sustainability rules, were published on Friday. Everton were referred by the Premier League to an independent commission in March.

That came following an audit of all top-flight clubs’ financial records for the 2021-22 season. It is related to a tax issue from loans for Everton’s new stadium at Bramley-Moore dock, where they are meant to move into next season.

The Premier League allow clubs to lose a maximum of £105m over a three-year period. And Everton recorded losses of £371.8m over the previous three years.

Sean Dyche's side were sat in 14th place during the international break, having won three of their last five top-flight games. But they've now plummeted down into 19th spot, only ahead of Burnley on goal difference. They now have just four points with 12 games played.

What do you make of the points deduction and its severity? Let us know in the comments section.

The Toffees have released a statement, which reads: "Everton Football Club is both shocked and disappointed by the ruling of the Premier League’s Commission. The Club believes that the Commission has imposed a wholly disproportionate and unjust sporting sanction.

"The Club has already communicated its intention to appeal the decision to the Premier League. The appeal process will now commence and the Club’s case will be heard by an Appeal Board appointed pursuant to the Premier League’s rules in due course.

"Everton maintains that it has been open and transparent in the information it has provided to the Premier League and that it has always respected the integrity of the process. The Club does not recognise the finding that it failed to act with the utmost good faith and it does not understand this to have been an allegation made by the Premier League during the course of proceedings. Both the harshness and severity of the sanction imposed by the Commission are neither a fair nor a reasonable reflection of the evidence submitted.

"The Club will also monitor with great interest the decisions made in any other cases concerning the Premier League's Profit and Sustainability Rules.
Everton cannot comment on this matter any further until the appeal process has concluded."

The points deduction is the highest figure awarded in Premier League history, surpassing the nine Portsmouth got back in 2010.

Everton will return to action, sat in the relegation zone, on Sunday, November 26 (4.30pm) when Manchester United visit Goodison Park. The game will be broadcast live on Sky Sports.
