Brentford boss Thomas Frank has jokingly threatened to trip Mikel Arteta up if Arsenal score a late winner today. The Bees host the Gunners in both clubs’ first game since the recent international break.

Brentford beat Arsenal in their first-ever Premier League game on a memorable August night in 2021. They will be looking for a repeat in west London this evening following their 3-0 loss last time out to Liverpool.

Arteta’s side are unbeaten in the last four meetings though, including two wins at the Gtech Community Stadium in league and cup competition. Arsenal have often been criticised for being too emotional and perhaps over-celebrating goals and victories.

Frank joked he had a plan if the Gunners left it late today. He said: “If they run across my box maybe I’ll trip them! But if we score a last-minute winner I will also be running around and celebrating.”

He added: “There’s some coaches and players that are not celebrating when they score goals – what is that?

“You’re doing the most difficult thing in football, you’re scoring a goal. You should celebrate.

“And if you score a last-minute winner against any team, we know how difficult it is to win in the Premier League, you should celebrate. I’m a believer of that, I like that.

“Emotional or not? I don’t know if Arsenal are or not, I will not be the judge of that.”
