{"id":296463,"date":"2023-11-28T13:23:59","date_gmt":"2023-11-28T13:23:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sportstoft.com\/?p=296463"},"modified":"2023-11-28T13:23:59","modified_gmt":"2023-11-28T13:23:59","slug":"man-united-star-jonny-evans-receives-mbe-from-prince-william","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sportstoft.com\/soccer\/man-united-star-jonny-evans-receives-mbe-from-prince-william\/","title":{"rendered":"Man United star Jonny Evans receives MBE from Prince William"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>Man United star Jonny Evans receives MBE from Prince William at Buckingham Palace in recognition of his services to football after winning 106 caps for Northern Ireland<\/h1>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Jonny Evans returned to Manchester United after eight years away this summer\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Ian Wright, Sarah Hunter and Amy Fearn also picked up honours on Monday<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Pressure is easing on Man United boss Erik ten Hag: Listen to It&#8217;s All Kicking Off\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Manchester United star Jonny Evans received his MBE from Prince William at Buckingham Palace on Monday, in recognition of his services to football.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Red Devils summer signing returned to Old Trafford after eight years away, and has featured perhaps more than expected so far this season, in the absence of Lisandro Martinez.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>However a recent injury has called a halt to his run of games, and he is now out on the sidelines with a hamstring strain sustained at the start of November.<\/p>\n<p>While his club career has seen him make three moves in eight years, he has been an ever-present for Northern Ireland, winning a whopping 106 caps for the Green and White army.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Now, at the age of 35, his services to the game have been formally recognised by the crown, and the centre back spoke of his surprise at receiving the honour.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/11\/28\/12\/78321729-0-image-a-55_1701174133696.jpg\" height=\"423\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Jonny Evans was awarded an MBE for his services to football in Northern Ireland on Monday<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/11\/28\/12\/78321723-0-image-a-56_1701174136936.jpg\" height=\"439\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>The Manchester United defender has played 106 times for his country, scoring six goals<\/p>\n<p>Your browser does not support iframes.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;When I got the letter through the door and it had the Royal seal on the back I was a bit shocked, but it was also amazing,&#8217; the Man United defender said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;It made me feel very proud, especially when I saw that it was in recognition of my contribution to association football in Northern Ireland.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;It brought it home that playing more than 100 times for my country, and playing for so long for Northern Ireland, has been so good.
