Chelsea icon Pat Nevin has been removed from his role as part of the club’s media team, without receiving any reason, according to reports.

Nevin made 242 appearances for the Blues during his five-year stint in west London, scoring 36 league goals, before moving to Everton, Tranmere Rovers, Kilmarnock, and Motherwell retiring in 2000.

However the Scot had always remained close to Chelsea, and had taken up a media role with his former employers, operating as a columnist both online and in matchday programmes.

In addition to his written analysis, he had also worked as a co-commentator for Chelsea media, although it is thought that he will also be stopping his work in this role too.

According to the Daily Telegraph, Nevin received a message from higher-ups at the club, communicating that his services would no longer be needed, though he has heard nothing from Todd Boehly, chief executive Chirs Jurasek or Clearlake Capital.

This note, however, is not thought to have included a reason as to why he was being stood down.

The report from the Telegraph claims that the ex-Scotland international remained philosophical about the news, despite receiving neither thanks nor explanations.

‘There are no bad feelings, you just shrug your shoulders and move on,’ said Nevin about the way in which he was reported to have found out about the change of his role.

‘A few people have told me I should be angry about the way I found out, but that’s not me. I’ve never really been like that.

‘I’ve got no high expectations just because I played for the club or anything like that. You do a job and then you don’t.’

In 13 years of work it is estimated that the former winger had written roughly 750 articles for the club, in addition to his regular work for the BBC.

Yet it would appear that Nevin’s future at the club is not entirely written off, with reports stating that the decision was taken by a figure no longer at the club, with a view to potentially reviewing it in future.

The ex-winger has also been invited to the Chelsea Christmas lunch this week, though the club are yet to comment on his media role.
