Arsenal fans loved Gabriel’s reaction after he made a last-ditch block despite the Gunners being 6-0 up against Lens in the Champions League on Wednesday.

Mikel Arteta’s side cruised to victory against the Ligue 1 side as they wrapped up top spot and qualification to the knockout stages of the Champions League. Arsenal blew Lens away in the first half an hour with Kai Havertz, Gabriel Jesus, Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli all on the scoresheet inside 30 minutes.

Martin Odegaard added the fifth goal in first half added time before Jorginho notched the sixth from the penalty spot in the 86th minute. Arsenal entered cruise control from the early stages as Lens had little more than a sniff before a late chance to grab a consolation goal came the way of Elye Wahi.

In the first minute of three additional at the end of the second half, the ball broke the way of Wahi who took one touch to set himself and the second to get his strike away. But he found his effort blocked by the outstretched leg of Gabriel who deflected the goalbound shot behind for a corner.

Despite the Gunners already 6-0 up at the time, Gabriel picked himself up instantly and turned to the fans to pump his arms out and celebrate like he’d scored a last minute winner.

Arsenal fans on social media lapped up Gabriel’s reaction, one commented on Twitter: “Gabriel celebrating a tackle like a World Cup win is so damn good”, a second said: “My under appreciated centre back.” While a third added: “This is why I love the bloke.”

Gabriel found himself dropped at the start of the season by Arteta who preferred a centre back partnership of William Saliba and Ben White. But the Brazilian’s form has rendered him undroppable in the Gunners backline and now looks as vital as standout defender last season Saliba.
