Angry Tottenham fans took to social media on Monday night to question why Arsenal defender Jakub Kiwior had escaped punishment against Luton after making a ‘terrible tackle’ on Andros Townsend.

Declan Rice stunned Kenilworth Road with a 97th minute winner to hand Arsenal a crucial 4-3 win over the relegation-threatened side, keeping the Gunners at the summit of the Premier League table.

But rival Tottenham fans were left furious after watching Kiwior catch Townsend high on the shin at 2-2, claiming Mikel Arteta’s side should have been reduced to 10 men.

It was a particular sore point for Spurs fans, who have been without suspended Cristian Romero following his straight red card tackle on Chelsea’s Enzo Fernandez.

Townsend and Kiwior each lunged for the ball inside the penalty box in the 53rd minute, with the latter just getting there first ahead of the Luton winger.

The Polish defender followed through and caught Townsend high on the shin, but escaped punishment as VAR chose not to review the decision.

A group of Spurs supporters highlighted how the tackle was very similar – if not identical – to Romero’s red card tackle in Tottenham’s 4-1 defeat against Chelsea last month.

After a review from VAR, the Argentine was given his marching orders for aggressively following through a tackle and catching Fernandez just below the knee.

‘One rule for Romero, another rule for rest of league,’ one angry supporter said.

Another added: ‘How that wasn’t a red card is beyond me, the agenda for Arsenal is unreal. Cuti (Romero) at least got the ball.’

A third said: ‘“Explain how Kiwior was meant to withdraw his leg after shooting?” Explain how Romero was meant to withdraw his leg after clearing the ball? Mind you, Kiwior went for the shot when he saw the defender was already going in for the tackle. The slow mo replay is actually quite flattering. It is much worse than it looks.’

‘It’s a worse tackle than Cuti’s,’ another Tottenham fan added.

One supporter angrily asked former Arsenal star Kevin Campbell to review the incident on talkSPORT.

Tottenham fans reacted angrily to the decision, claiming it showed an ‘inconsistency’ in officiating, with one fan calling on Kevin Campbell to discuss the incident on talkSPORT

‘Please make sure you bring up the no red card decision on that terrible tackle Kev. Not even a yellow. Please be sure to mention what would have happened if that was Romero (10 to life). It’s the inconsistency. Gooners also had a pen to be fair not given.’

Meanwhile, several other football fans took to social media to fire back at the claims, outlining that there was a significant difference between Kiwior’s tackle and Romero’s red card.

‘Intent. That’s the difference,’ one fan put, simply.

‘Freeze frame is a massive oversimplification, even though the contact isn’t great from Kiwior. The difference is Enzo is standing still and Romero slides in, Townsend slides in on Kiwior whilst he is taking a shot,’ another added.

Several fans disagreed with the Tottenham viewpoint, arguing there was a clear difference
