Ange Postecoglou insists that it will be hard for Tottenham to bring in a new forward in January to help improve their fortunes up top. The Spurs boss believes the best course of action is to work with the players he already has at his disposal rather than forking out big bucks in the New Year.

Tottenham are averaging two goals a game in the Premier League, which is the lowest among the top six sides. Their lack of clinicalness in front of goal cost them in recent Premier League defeats to Chelsea, Wolves, Aston Villa and West Ham.

Although Son Heung-min has done very well in filling in for Harry Kane since his departure in the summer, Spurs are in need of another proven goal-scorer to get them back in contention for the title. Yet Postecoglou is realistic about the inflated transfer market when it comes to strikers.

The two main targets Tottenham are being linked with down the middle are Ivan Toney and Victor Osimhen. Both players will cost an arm and a leg to bring in this winter and there is a great deal of uncertainty surrounding whether their respective clubs will let them go midway through this season

Postecoglou insisted that there is a large scope for improvement in the final third after his side’s most recent 2-1 loss to the Hammers and singled out Dejan Kulusevski as a player who needs to contribute more goals.

Asked whether he will look to bring in a new forward in January, Postecoglou admitted it wouldn’t be an easy task. “Well, it is not easy because when you talk about the finished product, you know what that is going to cost in the market and there aren’t that many there,” he said.
