Gary Neville has hit out at Luton forward Jacob Brown for a tackle on Phil Foden that could only have been to ‘significantly harm’ the Manchester City star.

Pep Guardiola’s side came from behind to halt the winless Premier League run and beat Luton 2-1 at Kenilworth Road, but Neville was quick to jump on Brown’s lunge after the game.

Describing the attempted tackle as the kind of challenge that every footballer hates, Neville took to social media to lambast the Scottish international and his intent.

Posting on X, the Sky Sports pundit said: ‘I said this a few weeks ago. When a player jumps in like that the fact the opposing players leg isn’t broken doesn’t alter the fact every professional hates that challenge more than any other.

The intent can only be there to significantly harm your opponent.’

Gary Neville has hit out at the challenge by Jacob Brown and questioned the forward’s intent

Brown’s challenge went unpunished by the referee and wasn’t overturned by VAR upon review

Brown appeared to follow through onto Foden’s ankle, but referee Tim Robinson failed to penalise the forward for the tackle.

VAR then also decided to not overturn the decision, deeming the challenge not worthy of a red card offence.

Luton had taken a shock lead in the game, when Elijah Adabayo put the Hatters in the lead on the stroke of half time.

Brown saw his Luton side take the lead against Man City but went on to lose the game 2-1

However, two goals inside three second half minutes from first Bernardo Silva and then Jack Grealish turned the game around and give the reigning champions all three points.

It was a similar story for the hosts, who have now taken the lead against Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester City in games this season, but failed to win any of them.

The defeat sees them remain in the Premier League’s bottom three, four points behind 17th placed Everton.
