Nick Kyrgios says he is the most generous player on the ATP tour – due to his enormous penalty bill. The out-spoken Australian regularly picks up fines for smashing rackets and shouts at umpires.

In total, Kyrgios has been slapped with £452,000 worth of fines – and his career is not over yet. That is way above the total accumalated by Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic. “It goes to charity so on the flip side, I’m the most generous ATP player ever,” Kyrgios told Piers Morgan.

Kyrgios was obviously speaking very tongue-in-cheek with his reponse to being the most fined player of all time. But the 28-year-old does give a lot of his time to charity, particularly the Nick Kyrgios Foundation, which he set up to help underpriviledged kids get into sport.

“A couple of years ago I had a vision – to build a facility for disadvantaged and underprivileged kids, where they could hang out, be safe, and feel like they were part of a family,” Kyrgios says on the Nick Kyrgios Foundation website.

The Wimbledon finalist is currently recovering from an injury that ravaged his 2022 campaign. He announced last week that he will miss the upcoming Australian Open – his home Grand Slam.

“I played a full year last year, no injuries; had great results, had a great year,” Kyrgios told the Athletic. “I barely played this year, two surgeries, and now still, I would probably say they’re both equally as fine, which is crazy.
