It&#8217;s All Kicking Off<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Liverpool and Scotland icon Sir Kenny Dalglish will be celebrated with a lifetime acheivement award at the BBC Sports Personality of the Year ceremony on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>Dalglish has been a brilliant servant to football both during his playing career, managerial career and retirement.<\/p>\n<p>The 72-year-old is a legend at his beloved Anfield where he enjoyed tremendous success as a star striker during the late 1970s and further along as Liverpool manager.<\/p>\n<p>Dalglish is also a much-loved member of Scottish football and is credited with being the nation&#8217;s most-capped male player and joint record goalscorer<\/p>\n<p>Reacting to the news he would be given the lifetime achievement accolade, Dalglish modestly paid tribute to the value of teamwork.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/12\/17\/00\/79046647-12872895-image-a-45_1702772911754.jpg\" height=\"431\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Kenny Dalglish has been awarded the BBC&#8217;s Sports Personality of the Year lifetime achievement accolade<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/12\/17\/00\/79046651-12872895-image-a-46_1702772922550.jpg\" height=\"620\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Dalglish is a legend at Liverpool and watched current manager Jurgen Klopp conducting a training session earlier in the year<\/p>\n<p>Your browser does not support iframes.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;Receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award is truly an honour,&#8217; he told the BBC.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;I have always believed in the importance of team success, and I wouldn&#8217;t be where I am today without all of the players I&#8217;ve played with, the people I&#8217;ve worked for, and the supporters that stood by me, so this is for them.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>Dalglish won\u00a0eight league titles and three European Cups at Liverpool and also guided Blackburn from the previous second division to the Premier League title in 1998.<\/p>\n<p>In his post-football retirement, Dalglish was a strong advocate of gaining justice for the tragic Hillsborough disaster having been manager of the club on that day.<\/p>\n<p>The incident had a profound effect on him and was eventually one of the reasons cited for leaving his role as Liverpool manager before he took charge at Blackburn.<\/p>\n<p>He later returned for a second spell managing Liverpool between 2011 and 2012.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/12\/17\/00\/79046657-12872895-image-a-48_1702772989026.jpg\" height=\"454\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Daglish carved out a legendary status as a Liverpool player before going on to enjoy management success at the club<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/12\/17\/00\/79046649-12872895-image-a-47_1702772928730.jpg\" height=\"490\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Dalglish also won the Premier League title with Blackburn Rovers in 1998<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/12\/17\/00\/79046655-12872895-image-a-49_1702772991976.jpg\" height=\"422\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Dalglish has also previously been awarded Liverpool&#8217;s Freedom of the City title<\/p>\n<p>Dalglish has previously been awarded Liverpool&#8217;s Freedom of the City title\u00a0for his support of families affected by the Hillsborough disaster.<\/p>\n<p>He paid tribute to how much the club means to him ahead of receiving his upcoming SPOTY award: &#8216;The football club means everything to ourselves as a family.<\/p>\n<h3>IT&#8217;S ALL KICKING OFF!\u00a0<\/h3>\n<p><span>It&#8217;s All Kicking Off\u00a0is an exciting new podcast from Mail Sport that promises a different take on Premier League football, launching with a preview show today and every week this season.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>It is available on MailOnline, Mail+, YouTube , Apple Music and Spotify<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Your browser does not support iframes.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;Glasgow and Liverpool are very similar.
