Liverpool icon Jamie Carragher was flabbergasted by Darwin Nunez’s actions as he completely stopped when the striker had an opportunity to finish into an empty net against Manchester United. The Reds underwhelmed at Anfield but the Uruguayan had a big chance to take the lead in the second half.

Luis Diaz was calling for a penalty when he was said to have been tripped by goalkeeper Andre Onana, but with several bodies down on the floor Nunez opted to join in protests towards the referee rather than finding the back of the net.

A bemused Carragher screamed down the microphone as he could not believe what he had just witnessed. “What’s Nunez stopped for?” Carragher questioned.

His co-commentator Gary Neville explained that Nunez wanted a penalty, to which Carragher replied: “It’s run across him and he’s got an empty net!”
